Take the local bus from Iiyama Station to Madarao; it's a 20-minute ride costing around 700JPY per person. Alternatively, a taxi from the station will cost between 5000-7000JPY.
Lift tickets are available on the mountain. There are 2 offices, one at the start (just beyond the blue welcome gate) and the other (main) down in the bowl at Heidis. Tickets can be bought for either just Madarao or a Mountain pass which includes Tangram. Tangram has some fantastic runs so please consider. Multiple consecutive day tickets are available which will reduce the daily price.
If you are here for a long stay, consider a season ticket.

Yes, lessons must be pre-booked, following the confirmation of your accommodation booking in one of our 2 participating hotels (Active Life Madarao and Xplore by Active Life). Contact us at activelife.snowclub@beactive.life.
It can get mighty cold at Madarao, so warm, waterproof snow gear is required. We also recommend helmets be worn. You can also check out our very own rentals at Miyuki rental shop here.
Lessons are undertaken on Madarao Mountain Resort. You will be briefed on the meeting place upon check-in into your hotel. We will make sure you are in the right spot for the start of your lesson.
Typically, 4-year-old (and below) children are physically limited in their coordination, balance and cognitive ability when compared to children over the age of 5. Therefore, our kids’ lessons begin at the age of 5 and are offered to children up to the age of 14. However, in some cases, depending on the child’s development, there may be an opportunity to include your child into our kids’ lessons. Madarao Resort also offers creche services in English and Japanese.
Yes, you do.
Please ensure you have a lift pass to cover the day or days of your lessons. We suggest a full mountain pass as lessons may take you to Tangram as well. A great addition to Madarao. If not, please inform the instructor that you only have a Madarao pass.
Madarao can get very snowy. We love it. Our complimentary lessons will be offered daily. Only under exceptional conditions where we are putting our guests or instructors at risk, would we look at delaying or cancelling lessons.
The individual progress of our guests will vary from person to person. You can be assured however that all our instructors are professional and certified and trained to provide lessons in a fun and safe environment to maximise yours or your child’s learning opportunities.
Yes, unless your lesson finishes at the end of your day, which coincides with the end of your rental period.
For added convenience, consider sending your suitcases and ski equipment to the hotel in advance or post-stay. TaQBin (Black Cat) provides reliable delivery, taking approximately 2 days.
While cash is common in Japan, rest assured we accept credit cards at our venues and hotels. We recommend carrying some cash with you before heading up the mountain, just in case the shops in the area do not accept credit cards. The nearest ATM is located at Iiyama station.
