Q: HOW DO I GET COMPLIMENTARY LESSONS?

A: The Active Life Snow Club Membership and therefore, our complimentary lessons are only available to those guests who book a minimum of 4 nights, in one of our 3 participating hotels (Active Life Madarao, Hakken by Active Life and Xplore by Active Life).

Q: I’M STAYING FOR 5 NIGHTS. CAN I GET A LESSON EVERY DAY?

A: Yes, you can get lesson every day. Having said that, we highly recommend that longer-stay guests practice what they learn before advancing to other classes. Our instructors will brief students on next steps in their learning. In many cases, practice/time on the snow is recommended. In some instances, our instructor may recommend a repeat of the same lesson. In other cases, advanced lessons may be recommended with one of our partner schools in Madarao!

Q: DO I NEED TO PRE-BOOK LESSONS?

A: Yes, lessons must be pre-booked, following the confirmation of your accommodation booking in one of our 3 participating hotels (Active Life Madarao, Hakken by Active Life and Xplore by Active Life). Contact us at activelife.snowclub@beactive.life.

Q: IS LUNCH PROVIDED IN THE KIDS ALL DAY CLASS?

A: We take a 1-hour break for lunch. Lunch costs are not included in our complimentary lessons and we recommend a 1,000 JPY allowance per child to allow adequate refuelling.

Q: CAN I GET A PRIVATE LESSON?

A: ALSC currently offers Kids and Adults Group lessons only. However, our partner snow school in Madarao will be recommended to those wishing to pay for private lessons.

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR AND BRING?

A: Warm, waterproof snow gear. You can also check out our very own Active Life Rentals here.

Q: WHERE DO I GO FOR MY LESSON?

A: Lessons are undertaken on Madarao Resort. However, there are meeting spots in every one of our 4 hotels. You will be briefed upon check-in into your hotel.

Q: WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO ARRIVE FOR MY LESSON?

A: Snowboard and ski lessons for kids begin at 9:00 am daily. Snowboarding and ski lessons for adults begin at 9:30 am daily.

Q: MY CHILD IS 4, CAN I STILL REGISTER HIM/HER?

A: Typically, 4-year-old (and below) children are physically limited in their coordination, balance and cognitive ability when compared to children over the age of 5. Therefore, our kids’ lessons begin at the age of 5 and are offered to children up to the age of 14. However, in some cases, depending on the child’s development, there may be an opportunity to include your child into our kids’ lessons. Madarao Resort also offers creche services in English and Japanese.

Q: DO I NEED LIFT PASS FOR MY LESSONS?

A: Yes, you do. All Snow Club members are required to purchase lift passes from us and must cover each day of your lesson. You can pre-purchase passes directly from us (contact us at activelife.booking@beactive.life) or purchase when check-in into your hotel.

Q: ARE HELMETS REQUIRED BY LAW?

A: Helmets are not required by law in Japan, however we strongly advise our students and guests to wear helmets when skiing or snowboarding!

Q: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT SNOWS OR THERE IS POOR WEATHER?

A: Our complimentary lessons will be offered daily. Only under exceptional conditions where we are putting our guests or instructors at risk, would we look at delaying or cancelling lessons.

Q: WILL WE BE ABLE TO SKI OR SNOWBOARD AFTER ONE LESSON?

A: The individual progress of our guests will vary from person to person. You can be assured however that all our instructors are professional and certified and trained to provide lessons in a fun and safe environment to maximise yours or your child’s learning opportunities.

Q: CAN I USE MY RENTAL EQUIPMENT AFTER MY LESSON?

A: Yes, unless your lesson finishes at the end of your day, which coincides with the end of your rental period.

Q: WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY LESSON?

A: Our lessons are complementary to some of our guests. If you need to cancel your lesson, please contact us directly at activelife.snowclub@beactive.life. Please note that our club membership (and the corresponding complementary lessons) are offered to those who book accommodation in our hotels. If you also need to cancel your accommodation, please look at the terms of your room booking.
